Summer By Delpozo

Silhouettes of voluminous skirts where fullness comes from the hip rather than the natural waist, and sleeves with the structure of a calla lily, have a bold modern dimension. At last, the promise of spring arrives with the gentle warmth of the morning sun and flowers beginning to burst into bloom. A special piece is the Bloom evening clutch, rendered in shiny resin and embroidered to the hilt, creating a little jewel to carry when summer days fade into gentle twilight.

This new awakening inspires Delpozo’s creative director, Josep Font, to study light. Delpozo’s creative director turns next to the installation artist, Soo Sunny Park whose “Unwoven Light” series of metallic mesh and iridescent Plexiglas create playful imaginative spaces, steering Font’s choice of diaphanous fabrics and shimmering prints.

The Benedetta and Bo bags have become staples and following the success of the Orchid clutch and Bubble bag, these styles are now offered in slick vinyl. Delpozo’s own “Sorolla blue”, inspired by the master colourist, is revealed in a unique floral print. This time encompassing the paintings of Spain’s master of light, Joaquín Sorolla along with the luminous refractions of Korean-American Soo Sunny Park’s installation art. Influenced by the “plein air” paintings, charged with a vivid optimism, spring’s colour palette emerges: bright whites play against radiant prints, which are created exclusively for the House in hues of sorbet yellow, lilac and apple green, fused with the orange and fuchsia of the summer sun. Even on the feet, the emphasis is on light, with an elongated ballerina style with translucent midi heels.

What this contemporary artist shares with the House is a deep commitment to craftsmanship. Park’s works take infinite hours to create, resembling the intricate hand embroidery done at the prêt-à-couture atelier. Joaquín Sorolla’s luminous seascapes in which sunbeams dance on the Mediterranean Sea inspire Font to channel lighter-than-air yet crisp textures wrapping around the female silhouette. Fans of embroidery across knitwear, handmade crochet complete with organdy bows, and blouses in rich scarf prints all reveal a contemporary vibrancy.
