Boots chairman Elizabeth Fagan steps down

Elizabeth Fagan, the non-executive chairman of health and beauty retailer Boots UK, is leaving the company after almost 14 years.

Fagan, who received a CBE in the Queen’s 2020 New Year’s honors list for her services to gender equality in business, held many senior roles within Boots, including senior vice president and managing director.

She is understood to have left her role with the Nottingham-headquartered company on Friday 31 January.

The retail chain thanked her for her ‘significant’ contribution to the business over her long tenure.

In 2006, she was named managing director of Boots Opticians, and a year later she took over the role of executive marketing director for Boots UK. Fagan is credited with facilitating the development of the successful ‘Here come the girls’ Christmas TV ad, which heralded a total brand repositioning in 2017.

When Alliance Boots merged with Walgreens in 2014 to form the Walgreens Boots Alliance, Fagan became the managing director of international retail driving the development of pharmacy retail businesses in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
